QUICK HISTORY

↬ karkat lived in recollé with both of his parents until the first grade, when his mom died of cancer. they moved back to his father's small home town in arizona almost immediately after.

↬ the friend group that karkat grew up with in arizona can be summarized as a bunch of assholes, basically, and a lot of his nastier personality habits developed out of self-defense and in an attempt to better fit in with them.

↬ towards the end of 8th grade, a shit ton of drama hit the fan with his friend group that involved multiple, severe injuries that made karkat realize that he really needed to get the fuck out. he convinced his dad to move back to recollé just in time to start high school there.

↬ his experience in arizona is why it takes him a long time to admit to being friends with people and genuinely liking them since for most of his life he did not have a lot of pleasant feelings about friendship, so getting out of that negative mindset has been a work in progress. he's getting there though!

↬ while he does not typically talk about his life before he moved back to the city, he will give vague summaries about it. like he has no problems with shit talking his old friends in arizona and he will tell you how terrible it was, but he absolutely refuses to talk about how much it fucked him up emotionally and socially. there aren't that many people who remember him from when he was a kid, partly because he does not often bring up that he used to live here before he moved back.

HOME LIFE

↬ he lives in an apartment complex with his dad. their relationship resembles more of a roommate situation than a father-son one and most of that is karkat's fault for being an ass.

↬ they do not have a lot of money; his dad doesn't make as much money as he did in arizona, which karkat actually feels bad about but he won't address the issue because he is emotionally constipated.

↬ their apartment isn't very furnished aside from the usual essentials. if you walk in, one of the first things you'll notice is how impersonal it feels. karkat's room is the exception though. it's generally kept neatish, although there's some clothes and stuff thrown around. his walls are covered in movie posters and his desk is covered with his junk. there's probably a dildo somewhere that yuuko gave him as a joke and he kept it so he can set it on his desk whenever she comes over so he can just stare flatly at her.

↬ there are currently ten cats in his apartment, two full grown (rom and com) and eight kittens, so the apartment is currently a disaster area. he plans on giving seven of the kittens away soon but for now his apartment is a cat lover's paradise.

WORK LIFE

↬ he works part time at grub mart, a 24 hour convenience store that's slightly smaller than walgreens but it's more or less the same. it has an attached liquor store but he is not old enough to work there yet.

↬ his work schedule is pretty shitty. it's monday through thursday from 10pm to 5am, so if he looks dead during school hours that is why. after he graduates high school he plans on getting a different shift or finding a new job altogether. at the time he was hired, it was the only shift available and the hiring manager was just desperate to hire someone so he gave it to karkat despite his age.

↬ he is a decent worker. he rarely ever calls out cause his family needs the money and he does his job pretty well. his problem is that he has a habit of getting into arguments with customers. it's one of the positives of him having such a late shift; there's less people to deal with.

↬ he does almost all of his homework at work. you might also spot him doing things like play his ds or just mess around on his phone. it is a long night and he's bored.

SCHOOL LIFE

↬ karkat is a senior at recollé high school. he actually has pretty good grades because he is very determined to get as many scholarships as humanly possible to make college less expensive. typically he is pretty good with attendance as well, but he has skipped a few times whenever yuuko managed to convince him to cut class.

↬ he's an editor for the student newspaper. he joined in his freshman year because he wanted to shove his opinions at everyone and be nosy. by senior year he is tired of it and wants to quit, but it will look very nice on a college application so he's still with it.

↬ he has a small movie poster of runaway bride in his locker. anya has the combination to his lock so she can drop off or take out stuff whenever.

↬ karkat is 100% that guy who gets into arguments with everyone, especially the teachers, over the material. he is the number one person to get lessons completely sidetracked because he doesn't know how to shut up.

SOCIAL LIFE

↬ because of his weird work hours karkat does not hang out with people typically after school since he uses that time to catch up with sleep usually. normally he will only sacrifice those nap time hours for people he really likes although there have been some exceptions.

↬ karkat does not make friends easily. he has a lot of people he considers acquaintances, and those people might consider him a friend but the feeling is not mutual. his freshman year of high school was literally just him glaring at everyone until they went away. the amount of people who he actually considers as friends is less than ten oops.

↬ when he finally admits that he is friends with someone he is very ride or die for them. he is willing to let his friends get away with a lot of shit that he would never let other people do with him. he is pretty paranoid about messing these relationships up and is convinced that his friends will realize he is a terrible person.

↬ he prefers hanging out with people one on one, and if it's in a group then he usually only agrees to it if he knows everyone in said group. because of this he really has no idea who his friends hang out with.

↬ he is pretty boring and doesn't hang out much unless he's been invited. he goes to the movie theater a lot though. you might spot him at the library a lot because he's too cheap to actually buy books but he likes to read.

MISC INFO

↬ he's bilingual! he speaks both spanish and english fluently. he does not speak spanish very often though, since it was his mother who was puerto rican and after she died he did not have a lot of people to speak it with. the only reason his ability to speak it didn't degenerate is because his dad kept practicing with him. he is currently in the process of learning russian.

↬ he knows various latin dances because his mom had taught him when he was young and it actually stuck with him. he's not amazing at it because it's not something he kept practicing at when he got older out of embarrassment, but he still remembers how. he would rather die than let anyone know this.

↬ karkat is a huge romantic and gets crushes very easily. he has a long list of past npc crushes, it's awful. karkat never confesses but he is also extremely obvious about having a crush, so usually he doesn't really have to confess because the other person can probably figure it out on their own. he is pretty invested in the love lives of his friends but does not care about anyone else's.

↬ he is very into movies! he will watch any genre, but his favorite is romantic comedies. he's pretty bad with horror movies although he pretends that he's not, so any time you watch a scary movie with him just prepare for a lot of screaming from karkat who will then deny ever screaming. will smith is his favorite actor and karkat has a gigantic crush on him.

↬ he gets really into free to play (some purchases within) mobile games, except he always gets so obsessed that he actually starts to spend money on them. usually after wasting Too Much Money he deletes the app and then pretends it never happened.

↬ karkat believes in aliens and is one of those people who gets into heated debates about them a lot, as well as watches a lot of documentaries about them. after getting some regains though, he is a lot quieter on the topic and does not really engage in the conspiracy theories anymore. hmmm.

↬ he used to spend a lot of time trolling people on the internet, so some people might recognize him from that because his comments got pretty famous at one point. he doesn't do it as often as he used to though, mostly because he is now surrounded by too many pures who are influencing him. if he finds a post or something he disagrees with he will definitely type out an extremely long rant about it. so basically he still picks fights on the internet, but he's more picky about them now.
