[He takes the hit with a laugh. Cutter is a pretty good tank, especially as long as he knows that what gets tossed at him has no real malicious intentions.]
Ow! [He pulls back, but not before sticking out his tongue cheekily at him,]
Don't be so rough! Anyway, we should exchange our contact information, what do you think?! It'd be embarrassing if I can't even call my spouse!
[This is will be a stupid nickname and he will die if anybody ever takes it serious, but you bet he'll set it as Karkat's contact information for now.]
[ luckily, karkat is sarcastic enough to not take it seriously. this is probably the fastest he'll exchange contact details with someone though? it's weird how retrospec streamlines how quickly you become friends with someone.
[ FRIEND... okay, this is not the time to get emotionally constipated over the concept of friendship. ]
Are you new here or something?
[ that or for some reason he keeps hanging out with people not his age??
granted, it took forever for karkat to also get more than three friends his age and he lived here for a couple of years. but cutter seems a lot friendlier than he is. ]
Oh, I'm very good with the dragging and starting them part. It's the keeping it up that's the challenge.
[Cutter is friendly enough and he knows it. It's mostly because he enjoys taking genuine interest in people and flourishes in their company, but once it comes to the part where you'd be basically 'joining their team'....? That's where he balks and runs because he is afraid that they will find that he isn't what they want after all.
It's easier to be remembered for one's good qualities and having drifted away rather than as a let-down, right?]
[ that's... well, he wouldn't say interesting. once karkat makes sure that cutter's contact info has been correctly entered, he repockets his phone, still mulling over what the other teen just said. ]
You just keep doing dumb shit together until suddenly you blink and realize they are an irreplaceable part of your life.
[ the way he says it makes it hard to tell if he's being serious or not. ]
[Damn, now he's gone and admitted it! Looking to the side he laughs sheepishly.]
Haha... Pretty much, yeah. I'm an idiot who easily gets attached, but others might not feel that way and- I'm just kinda scared that they'll look at me and decide they've been wasting their time all along? Something like that.
it's an odd thing to talk about, as karkat's pretty convinced that he's going to end up fucking up his relationships at one point. he can be pretty mean, even without meaning to, so he has to constantly watch himself to make sure he doesn't cross the line and make people realize that they don't want to be his friend. ]
In my experience it takes a lot of fucking work to get someone to stop wanting to talk to you. So unless it turns out you are the ultimate king asshole, you'll probably be fine.
[ he won't say "definitely be fine" because honestly, he can't promise something definite. ]
Heh... Thanks. I'm way more worried that they think that I'm just plain boring rather than an ass, though. My parents raised me to have good manners.
[It's also way easier to understand and theoretically work on the latter while being seen as boring... Being exciting isn't a skill that can be really learned.]
[And there it is, that childish silent begging and hope. He has to gather himself before he manages to brush it off as the casual comment (compliment?) it is.]
I mean. ...You don't know me very well yet, though.

also it's too late, he's hitting him, because karkat does not learn. ]

[ he's more poking cutter now, so at least it's no longer hitting. ]
no subject
Mind your manners or I'll demand a divorce!
no subject
I should be the one asking for a goddamn divorce here. You've brought nothing to this relationship besides an imprint from where you landed on me.
no subject
Well, at least I left an impression in that case! All you did was singing about one night stands!
no subject
Don't say it like that! It gives the implication that you're more serious about this relationship than I am!
[ karkat what are you even arguing about. ]
no subject
I'm not?!
[This teasing has gone way off the tracks and Cutter is loving it.]
no subject
[ he's not even sure how they got here, but he refuses to back down now even if the conversation topic is dumb. ]
no subject
Yup, it totally does.
no subject
[ he reaches over and flicks cutter on the forehead. that's what he gets for coming so close!! ]

but he'll pull his phone out. ]
If we divorce you'll have to delete it.

This brings my count of friends my own age I've made in this city to three!

I moved here about nine weeks ago and got dragged right into this retrospec mess.
I'm also... not really that good with this whole making bonds thing. [Yeah.]
no subject
[ most of the people who drags karkat around how obnoxiously friendly and they steamroll him. ]
