[ he rubs his face, hoping that it's not red anymore. it is a curse to be someone who gets worked up very easily, especially when that is the very first impression you make. ]
Car-cat? [The corners of his mouth twitch and his eyes wrinkle but he doesn't say anything. Cutter has gotten his own share of grief for his nickname so that he knows not to push it too far.
(It still sounds funny, though. Does that mean his friends get to call him Karkles? Oh no, damn, now he's tempted to ask!)]
Okay, no asking! Mine's story is pretty boring and easily explained, though. I'm Sharpe and I have a mean uppercut, add a class full of ten to sixteen year olds as clubmates to it and the name was pretty much done the moment I didn't silence the first one who called me that right away forever.
[He tilts his head and rubs the back of it, looking thoughtful for a second.]
Actually, I don't even remember who started it. I liked it because it was edgy and I was a kid and it stuck!
[Laughing brightly he raises his fist and offers it to Karkat for a bump.]
it's still weird, admittedly, since only within the past half year (when retrospec became a thing) that karkat started having friends that he can count on with more than just one hand. well, it's mostly weird that people want to be his friend. people who are overbearingly nice are strange creatures to him, and are extremely annoying, and yet most of his closest friends are like that.
so, you know. maybe not as annoying as he claims.
cutter will receive a lackluster fist bump. ]

[He smiles, taking the reluctant fistbump like a first place in the national lottery.
Unlike Karkat Cutter has never had a hard time making friends, but he will openly admit that his skill of letting any relationship grow closer than skin-deep needs some serious working on. He just keeps shying away when somebody reaches the level where relying on each other would become an expected thing, mainly because he cannot find it in him to trust himself to be able to come through for anybody. It's awkward to explain, but the fear of letting others down is there and gnawing away on Cutter more often than not when he isn't going out of his way to do something that'll make him forget about it for a while.
He knows that it makes him somewhat hard on himself and the air around him gloomy, but he cannot help it!
When there are reasons to be happy about something he embraces them fully, though. He likes himself way more when he is able to shake off his worries because he then feels like he's flying.
Karkat made him feel this way, so he has a loyal ally now, whether he wants to or not.]

My hours are normally pretty shit, so I'm always tired.
[ he very much needs a new job. he's planning on hunting for one, with better hours that won't make him have to stay up all night, but so far he's still running on less sleep than what is recommended. ]

[ since... the implication is that he is. god, it amazes him that people can be open like that in regards to non-angry ranting.
He shoves his hands in his pockets and tilts his head before he flashes him another smile.]
I guess! I was really upset earlier when I sang that silly song and ran just to tire myself out and get the out outta my system, but meeting you and doing this silly singing match really lifted my spirits! You're my first luck in this month, Karkat!
[ oh my god, how is someone supposed to respond to that? if his hands weren't already tucked into his pockets he'd cover his face again, but as it stands he will just settle for staring up at the sky in a very "why" gesture. ]
